FORMULA 1 HAS DECIDED AGAINST REPLACING THE RUSSIAN GP. THE 2022 SEASON WILL REMAIN AT 22 RACES.

The Russian GP, which was cancelled after the Russian invasion of Ukraine will not be replaced leaving 22 races in the 2022 season. Formula 1 had looked at a raft of options including Qatar and a double header at the Singapore GP, however it was decided not to add another venue. This gives the schedule a 2 weekend gap between the end of the European season in September and the start of the fly away races in October.

Qatar was linked to replace the cancelled Russian GP.

Other issues that were taken into account was the global inflation increase and the rising cost of freight, the replaced race needed to be financially viable to both F1 and the circuit.

Formula 1 has decided that they could not find a solution that would fit all requirements.
