Nyck De Vries to drive at Spain for Williams

Current Formula E champion Nyck De Vries will drive in Free Practice 1 for Williams replacing Alex Albon.

This has happened in part due to new rules implemented for the 2022 season, which make it mandatory for each team to use a rookie for two FP1 sessions throughout the season.

Although the Dutch driver is making his debut at a race weekend this is not his first drive in F1 as he was part of Mercedes young driver test in 2020.

Could this be Latifi’s final year in Formula 1?

The timing of the test is significant as Mercedes have made it clear they want to get De Vries, who is part of the Mercedes Driver program, a seat for 2023. Williams have also confirmed that discussions have taken place regarding a seat in F1 from 2023.
