Formula 2 kicked off its Feature Race on a wet Miami track, with Kush Maini on pole ahead of 2025 F3 champion Rafael Câmara. Repeated yellow flags and chaotic battles defined the race, as MP Motorsport’s Gabriele Minì stormed to his first win, with Dino Beganovic and Câmara standing out as race MVPs.
The grid set-up started with more bad luck for DAMS Racing’s Roman Bilinski, with engine issues persisting all weekend. The Polish racer’s car came to a halt before he could take his starting position, ending his race prematurely.
The stewards also handed Martinius Stenshorne a stop-and-go penalty for a starting grid infringement.
Lights Out for a Slippery Race
As the race started, Maini had a comfortable start, putting himself ahead of the grid. The drivers struggled to find grip, and an incident between Saturday’s Sprint Race winner Tsolov and Tsanapol Inthraphuvasak ended tragically for the Red Bull Junior.
Missing Memos For the Race Leaders
While marshals cleared the track, race control instructed drivers to pass through the pit-lane.
Maini and Camara missed the call and stayed out on track, with the incident set to be investigated.
As the race resumed, MP Motorsport’s Oliver Goethe lost the rear on the Safety Car restart, hitting the wall and scattered debris across the pit straight.
A Ticking Clock
Lap 10 saw Alex Dunne in the barriers around the final corner, bringing out the safety car once again, which drivers used to their advantage to filter into the pits.
At the 22-minute mark, a three-way incident between Varrone, Stenshorne and van Hoepen brought out another yellow flag. This was followed by a spin from Cian Shields at the 12 minute mark.
5-Minute Frenzy
The Race was green-lit at the 5 minute mark with the top three immediately going head-to-head.
Câmara, Beganovic and Minì engaged in an intense battle filled with overtakes and a search for crucial gaps. In the final minute, Câmara ran wide, Beganovic capitalised, with Minì then making a dive to the front and taking the win.
Results
Minì secured his first Formula 2 race victory, followed by Beganovic, who fought his way to the podium from eleventh on the grid. Rookie Câmara lost the top step, having to settle for third and the final podium position.
