Who would have thought before the summer break that this would even be a conversation? But you can never rule out the Dutch lion that is Max Verstappen. We take a look at some of the possible paths for the 2025 Drivers’ title between championship leader Lando Norris and Max.
Summer Resurgence for RedBull.
Since the summer break and the departure of Christian Horner, Red Bull have been gaining valuable points while keeping unusually quiet. Their leading Dutchman has reduced his points deficit to 1st place from 104 points to 36 points in just six races.
What Happens if Verstappen Wins all the Remaining Races?
If Max wins all of the remaining races, including sprint races, he will gain 116 points. This will take him to a total of 437 points. Lando Norris is currently leading the championship with 357 points. As long as Lando finishes second in every race, including sprints, he ends the season with 443 points and wins the championship.

What Happens if Max Wins and Lando Finishes 3rd in the Remaining Races?
If the Dutchman soars to victory in all remaining races, including sprints, we know he finishes on 437 points. If the Englishman finishes 3rd in all remaining races, including sprints, Max will become the champion, as Lando will only have 429 points.

Could a McLaren DNF Help Crown the Lion?
Should the McLaren championship leader DNF in a Grand Prix while finishing 2nd in all other races, and Max wins, there is a net gain of 25 points for Max. Verstappen would win the 2025 Drivers’ title by 12 points.

A Sprint to the Finish Line
As we have two sprint races left, there are plenty of possibilities for points gains. If Lando and Max win one sprint race each and Verstappen wins three features with Norris finishing 2nd, Lando would win by 22 points.

4th for Number 4?
A 4th-place finish for Lando in a race could change the outcome. Should Max win both sprints and 3 of the features, and Lando finishes 4th in one of the feature races, Lando still wins.

But what About Oscar Piastri?
Of course, we all know Oscar Piastri is only one point behind Lando Norris in the championship, and he simply can’t be ruled out either. The Australian and British drivers could very easily swap positions in the championship. As we know, pit stops have also been a problem for McLaren this year, which could lead to tricky team decisions.
Norris and Piastri come 2nd every Second Race
The McLaren pair could battle it out for 2nd and 3rd if the RedBull driver wins every race. Should that occur, Norris would still win the championship by 6 points.

Tracks that Favour Max’s Battle
It’s well known that Qatar and Abu Dhabi tend to suit the McLaren well. Lando Norris took pole in Brazil in 2024, however, Max Verstappen stunned the world with his performance to claim the top spot. Vegas also tends to be a struggle for McLaren due to low temperatures and grip.
So, What are the Conclusions?
Yes, Max Verstappen is certainly still in this 2025 Drivers’ Title fight as we head to Brazil. Of course, we remember his masterclass in Brazil last year with a sensational win. It will be a challenge, but one thing is for sure, you can never rule out the Dutchman.
