IndyCar Bommarito Automotive Group 500 Qualifying took place as the sun began to set on Saturday. With the series racing at only its second oval of the season, all eyes were fixed on who would be able to take the fight to Alex Palou. Here’s everything you need to know from qualifying.
Are Team Penske Back?

Following a less than ideal start to the 2025 season, St. Louis tentatively looks like it could be the site of a comeback for Team Penske. All three drivers were on the pace from the get-go this weekend and that transferred over neatly into qualifying.
Will Power launched himself back into contention by taking Pole Position with an impressive average lap speed of 180.329mph. This was enough for him to secure Team Penske’s 700th Pole Position – a staggering statistic.
Scott McLaughlin has a strong history around this particular oval and highlighted this fact prior to the weekend. While it wasn’t pole position for him, he came out in second place for Sunday’s race.
Josef Newgarden had to settle for fifth.
Arrow McLaren on the Backfoot

Pato’Ward was the lead Arrow McLaren in qualifying. The Mexican driver put the car into third place but had nothing to show that he was able to compete with the two Team Penske drivers out front.
For the other two Arrow McLaren drivers though, it was a less than stellar qualifying performance. Lundgaard finished down in fourteenth with Siegel further back still in twentieth. All three drivers will have lots of work to do in Sunday’s Grand Prix if they want even one of them to be able to finish on the podium.
Strong Pace from Meyer Shank Racing
Marcus Armstrong and Felix Rosenqvist stood out as the best of the rest in qualifying. The Meyer Shank Racing drivers finished in sixth and seventh places respectively. This put the pair ahead of all of the Andretti Global and Chip Ganassi Racing drivers. Not bad going.
Mixed Results from the Rest
The rest of the field was a bit jumbled up. There were standout qualifying performances from some, like David Malukas who finished in fourth place. But for many, like Marcus Ericsson, (P13) and Kyffin Simpson (P26), there was a lot left on the table. All of these drivers will be hoping to turn things around in the Grand Prix.

Alex Palou is also out of position in ninth with Kyle Kirkwood just behind him in tenth. There are a plethora of storylines to keep an eye on thanks to the IndyCar Bommarito Automotive Group 500 Qualifying Session.
