Ash Sutton secured his first pole position in his 2025 BTCC campaign at a soaking wet Thruxton circuit.
A sensational performance from the championship leader saw him master the wet conditions in an incredibly dramatic qualifying session. A sensational lap in Q3 put him in front of championship rival Tom Ingram on the grid for round 10. Sutton’s teammate Dan Cammish bought his Napa Ford home in third place, continuing his excellent qualifying form so far this season.
The King of Thruxton crashes out
Josh Cook had a big off on the exit of Goodwood corner in Q1 which saw his One Motorsport Honda slide off into the barriers at high speed. An unusual error from the local hero who went to hospital after the incident for precautionary checks. He has now been cleared to race tommorow, providing his Civic is ready.
Proctor impresses on BTCC return
Senna Proctor was absolutely the star of qualifying on his first BTCC weekend since 2021. Proctor added to his previous successes at Thruxton with a Q3 appearence and ended up qualifying in sixth place. But Q3 wasn’t so succesful for Proctor, his Hyundai lost power with just two minutes to go.
Restart Racing struggle
It was a disapointing session for the Restart Racing crew, both Chris Smiley and Dan Lloyd fell at the first hurdle in Q1. After Smiley’s record breaking run in FP2, Restart struggled to find pace in the wet conditions. But, with dry weather forecast tommorow at Thruxton, we could see both Restart cars charging through the field in race one.
Tricky session for BMW
The BMW’s seemed to lack a bit of pace in the wet conditions they normally thrive in. Defending BTCC champion Jake Hill qualified the highest of the four drivers in seventh place. Rainford also made it into Q2 but had an off on his last lap meaning he starts 11th. Jack Sears trophy leader Daryl Deleon will be disappointed with his performance as he was knocked out in Q1. And Aiden Moffat, who has made a habit of carving through the field on race day, qualified a lowly P20. BMW seem confident that they can turn things around in the dry tomorrow.
