Melbourne’s pole sitter Rafael Câmara qualified on pole once again in F3 Qualifying for the 2025 Bahrain GP. Callum Voisin and Charlie Wurz rounded out the top three.
Freddie Slater is a new driver this weekend, making his Formula 3 debut for AIX Racing.
Green Light in the Pitlane
Almost every car left the pitlane the moment the green light illuminated the exit. It was just the Trident cars who chose to wait. Drivers were on a mix of new and used tyres for their first laps.
Many drivers were battling for track position, Hitech’s Xie even passing cars off track. The Trident cars were released into the gap to give them some clean air. Xie started the first flying lap five minutes into the session. He had a small lock-up that cost him a few tenths, causing him to abort the lap and pit. Xie’s Hitech teammate Stenshorne set purple sectors, but he also opted to pit instead of finish the lap.
The times started rolling in for the first flying laps. Nikola Tsolov led the field early on with a 1:50.506 ahead of Christian Ho and James Wharton. The entire field pit after their first laps.
Second Flying Laps
With new tyres on, the cars poured out of the pits for their second flying laps with a little over half the session left. Quite a few times from the first laps were deleted for track limits at this time.
Williams Racing Junior driver Alessandro Giusti set a purple middle sector, jumping to provisional pole. Straightaway, Callum Voisin beat Giusti’s time a few seconds later by two hundredths with a 1.49.882. The drivers once again pit to prepare for their final flying laps.
The Final Laps
The field exited the pits with five minutes left in the session. Roman Bilinski’s team pushed his car to get it going out of the pitlane, but race control noted them for a pitlane infringement. They would investigate after the session.
Rafael Câmara started the first flying lap in the last two minutes, going half a second faster than the previous times with a 1:49.214. No one was able to beat his time, giving the Brazilian driver back-to-back pole positions to start his Formula 3 career. Joshua Dufek qualified on reverse grid pole.
