Rafael Villagómez will continue with the Van Amersfoort Racing (VAR) team in the 2025 Formula 2 season. The Mexican driver will be looking to build on his experience during his rookie season.
Villagómez made his debut in Formula 2 last season, a season full of twists and turns for the rookie driver. He was able to secure 24 points in his rookie campaign. The season highlight came in the Melbourne feature race. A race full of carnage saw the Mexican finish in seventh place.
Resigning with VAR adds another chapter to the long-running story between the pair. Prior to F2, Villagómez spent three seasons racing with the team in Formula 3. Additionally, he competed in the 2021 Euroformula Open Championship with the team, securing an eighth-place finish in the standings.
This long-running partnership will be integral for the next season, as both fight to win championships.

Upon this announcement, Villagómez expressed his enthusiasm about continuing his journey with VAR.
“I’m extremely excited to stay and continue in Formula 2 with VAR. This is an important year for both myself and the team,” Villagómez mentioned.
“Towards the end of last season, we started to see things come together, and I’m eager to carry that momentum forward. We’ve put in a lot of hard work over the winter break, and now I’m really looking forward to getting back on track for testing in Barcelona.”
VAR Team Principal Brad Joyce commented on the move. Bringing to loght the team’s confidence in the young driver.
“We’re delighted to have Rafa remain with our FIA Formula 2 team for the upcoming season,” Joyce stated.
“He made notable progress last year, and we’re excited to keep working together to further his development. We believe he has the potential to build on his performances and achieve even better results in 2025.”
With the Formula 2 season just around the corner, Villagomez will be looking to take another step forward in his career.
