FRECA’s 2024 Champion Rafael Câmara will make his Formula 3 debut this season with Trident.
In the three short years he has been racing in single seaters, Câmara impressed many with his performances. Since his last year of karting in 2021, the Brazilian driver has yet to finish a championship below fifth in the standings.
An Impressive Start
Rafael Câmara was a champion in karting when he joined the Ferrari Driver Academy in 2022 ahead of his Formula 4 debut. He competed in three championships at once, finishing third in Italian and German F4 and second in Formula 4 UAE.
This was in a highly competitive field where he was driving for PREMA Racing with future Formula 1 driver Kimi Antonelli as his teammate. Antonelli ultimately won both Italian and German F4 that season, but Câmara still proved that he was a great talent.

After his impressive year, Câmara was ready to make the step up to Formula Regional in 2023. The young Brazilian raced in both the Formula Regional Championship by Alpine (FRECA) and the Formula Regional Middle East Championship, finishing fifth and third.
Once again, he was in the shadow of his PREMA teammate Kimi Antonelli, who won both championships that year as well. While Antonelli made the jump to Formula 2 in 2024, Rafael Câmara was given a second chance at the FRECA title.
A Champion at Last
When Câmara returned to FRECA and Formula Regional Middle East in 2024, winning a title was the target. Six race wins later, Rafael Câmara won FRECA with PREMA Racing. He finished over 70 points ahead of second-place finisher and fellow PREMA driver James Wharton.
Câmara finished third in Formula Regional Middle East for the second year in a row, but his incredible consistency in FRECA made up for it. It was clear the Ferrari junior was ready to join the Formula 3 grid in 2025.
The Challenge Ahead
Many great drivers from the 2024 FRECA field are racing in Formula 3 this season, including Câmara’s closest championship rivals James Wharton and Tuukka Taponen. He will be hoping to carry this momentum into F3 and win back-to-back championships.
The FIA Formula 3 season starts March 14th in Melbourne, where Rafael Câmara will begin his rookie championship campaign with Trident.
