Kush Maini: An F2 Season Review

Samantha Yanis Avatar

Kush Maini will start his third season in Formula 2 in 2025. After racing alongside the 2024 F2 Champion Gabriel Bortoleto at Invicta Racing, the Indian racer is moving to Dams Lucas Oil to begin a new chapter in his career.

Before the season begins, it’s important to take a look back on his F2 career so far.

The Rookie Season

In 2023, Maini scored points on his Formula 2 debut in Sakhir at the Sprint Race. He followed it up with a fourth place finish at the Feature Race. Two races later in Melbourne, Maini achieved his first podium in F2.

While Maini wasn’t regularly fighting for wins, he scored almost double the amount of points his experienced Campos Racing teammate Ralph Boschung did. Many great rookies debuted in 2023, including Formula 1-bound drivers Ollie Bearman and Isack Hadjar. Kush Maini ultimately finished 11th in the championship, ahead of Isack Hadjar and other rookies like Jak Crawford and Arthur Leclerc.

His Maiden Victory

Making the switch to Invicta Racing in 2024 proved to be the right move. While his pole position at the first race of the year was stripped because of a technical infringement, there was no denying his improved pace. Maini had also joined the Alpine Driver Academy for 2024, providing the backing of a Formula 1 team.

Maini achieved multiple podiums throughout the year, but the highlight of his season was his maiden F2 victory at the Sprint Race in Hungary. He originally finished in second, but Richard Verschoor’s disqualification meant Maini was declared the winner.

Gabriel Bortoleto, Maini’s teammate, won the F2 Championship that year. Kush Maini finished 13th place. He undoubtedly had a rough season in comparison to his teammate, but other great drivers like Ollie Bearman also struggled. Bearman scored just one more point than Maini in 2024.

Looking Forward

Kush Maini will race for Dams Lucas Oil in 2025 alongside Jak Crawford. With many new faces entering the sport from Formula 3, this is the chance for Maini to use his experience to his advantage to fight at the front.

The Indian driver will be looking to win more races and finish in the top 10 of the driver standings in 2025.
