The Rookie Season

Richard Verschoor began his F2 campaign in 2021 with an impressive fourth place at the first feature race in Bahrain. He even led the race for a time before his soft tyres degraded. Verschoor struggled with funding, so his early performances were crucial.

He won his first race in Silverstone at the second Sprint Race of the weekend. While it was his only win of the season, Verschoor’s pace proved there were more wins in his future. He held his own in a highly competitive Formula 2 season, with future F1 and IndyCar drivers like Oscar Piastri, Zhou Guanyu, Liam Lawson, Christian Lundgaard, Robert Schwartzman, and Marcus Armstrong competing for wins and podiums.

Gaining Experience

In 2022, Verschoor moved to Trident. It was a season of mixed results, resulting in a 12th place finish in the championship standings. The highlights of that season were his three second-place finishes, one of which was at his home race in Zandvoort.

Verschoor’s long-awaited maiden Feature Race win came at the Red Bull Ring in 2023, one year after being disqualified from the win at the same track. After qualifying 11th, the Dutch driver drove the alternate strategy to victory with Van Amersfoort Racing.

His consistency improved as he gained more experience in the category. In 2023, Verschoor scored points during all but one race weekend.

Reflecting on 2024

It was a tough season for Richard Verschoor in 2024. Despite having great pace at many tracks, luck was not on his side. The Dutch driver faced multiple post-race disqualifications that stripped him of race wins, and an issue with his car forced him to retire from the lead in Monaco.

On top of this, he switched teams mid-season, moving from Trident to MP Motorsport for the end of the season.

If it weren’t for things out of his control, Richard Verschoor’s F2 season would look better on paper. However, there’s no denying his improved form compared to previous seasons.

Looking Forward

This year will mark Richard Verschoor’s fifth season in Formula 2. After bouncing from team to team, he’s back with MP Motorsport to continue his F2 journey. Verschoor spoke on his move to the team in 2024, stating:

“Signing up with MP for more Formula 2 feels like coming home…I spent half of my entire racing career with MP, so it means a lot to me that we are able to move forward together for 2025.”

Both Verschoor and MP Motorsport will be looking to find success in 2025.
