Hannah Adams Avatar

Mike Krack has been replaced as Aston Martin’s Team Principal, with Andy Cowell assuming the role of CEO and Team Principal with immediate effect.

Previously leading Mercedes’ engine program during its run of championship titles in the 2010s, Cowell joined Aston Martin last year. Following this, he became Chief Executive in October 2024.

Consequently, Krack will now lead the trackside team as Chief Trackside Officer, after serving as Team Principal from 2022-2024.

In addition, the AMR Technology Campus-based team will be led by new Chief Technical Officer Enrico Cardile. This team can “now focus 100 per cent of its time on the competitive ingenuity challenge of creating a new race car.”

Remaining with the Group in a leadership position is Tom McCullough, who will play a critical role in the expansion of Aston Martin’s broader range of racing categories.

The Reasons For Restructure

Crucially, Aston Martin have explained that “clarity of leadership and as part of a shift to a flatter structure” are the main reasonings behind the restructure.

Furthermore, the team went on to explain that “to deliver the best race car performance, the team’s Aerodynamics, Engineering and Performance Departments have evolved to become separate, dedicated trackside and AMR Technology Campus-based teams with both reporting into Andy.”

This organisational restructure also comes ahead of the arrival of the team’s Managing Technical Partner Adrian Newey in March.

Leaving Red Bull after 18 years, the motorsport great has designed Championship-winning cars for several teams including McLaren and Williams.

These decisions will aim to help Aston Martin in their mission of becoming a Championship-winning outfit.

Thoughts From Cowell

Andy Cowell, CEO and Team Principal of Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team said:

“I have spent the last three months understanding and assessing our performance, and I’ve been incredibly impressed by the dedication, commitment and hard work of this team. With the completion of the AMR Technology Campus and our transition in 2026 to a full works team, alongside our strategic partners Honda and Aramco, we are on a journey to becoming a Championship-winning team. These organisational changes are a natural evolution of the multi-year plans that we have scheduled to make and I’m incredibly excited about the future.”
