Zagazeta, the first driver confirmed for the new French team, brings prior Formula 3 experience from his current stint with Jenzer Motorsport, where he is ranked 25th in the driver standings.
The 21-year-old Peruvian previously competed in the Formula Regional European Championship. He was also the runner-up in the 2021 British Formula 4 Championship, taking four race wins. Interestingly, he’s part of a growing list of drivers to compete after having their appendix removed.
Expressing his excitement about joining DAMS Lucas Oil, Zagazeta said:
“I’m very happy to join a team with such a rich history in motorsport, which has been a leading outfit in Formula 2 for several years. It’s a new environment for everyone in the championship with the updated car, but I hope that my knowledge will help us to achieve great results together.”
Earlier this month, DAMS Lucas Oil announced their entry into the FIA Formula 3 Championship, marking a new chapter for the Le Mans-based squad. With a history spanning over 30 years, the team has secured 31 international titles and 173 race victories across 15 championships.
For Bruno del Pino, the 2025 season will mark his debut in Formula 3. The 18-year-old Spaniard is currently third in the Eurocup-3 standings. He has spent the last two years racing with MP Motorsport and even participated in post-season testing. There, he finished seventh overall and as the lead MP driver. Del Pino now joins Tim Tramnitz in MP Motorsport’s 2025 F3 campaign.
Del Pino shared his excitement about the move:
“It’s fantastic news that I’m graduating to Formula 3, and it couldn’t be with a better team than MP Motorsport.”
“In my two years with the team, they have made me feel at home in an environment that has helped me to get the best out of myself. It was wonderful to bag our first wins together this season, and it’s with these positive conditions that we will continue our successful collaboration, as we embark on a fresh challenge in F3.”
MP Motorsport has a strong presence in Formula 3, currently sixth in the Constructors’ Championship. The Dutch team also competes in Formula 2, F1 Academy, and other regional series.
Matías Zagazeta and Bruno del Pino add to the growing pool of Latin and Spanish talent in F1 and feeder series. It surely gives the Spanish-speaking audience even more reasons to be excited about the future of motorsports.
