In 2017, Ilott first joined PREMA Racing to compete in the Formula 3 European Championship. During his time with the team, he delivered six wins and 11 podium finishes. He later went on to finish second in the 2020 FIA Formula 2 season behind his former PREMA teammate Mick Schumacher.

Callum Ilott will be returning to the PREMA family with crucial IndyCar experience. While he’s currently racing in the FIA World Endurance Championship with Hertz Team JOTA, he previously raced with both Juncos Hollinger Racing and Arrow McLaren in the NTT IndyCar Series.

Ilott spoke about his return to PREMA and IndyCar, saying:

“It’s an incredible opportunity to experience INDYCAR with PREMA, their first steps in the series and in the US. What an amazing chance. I love the racing, I love these cars and I love the team, so it’s great to be back to what they call the Italian family home.”

The Brit made his IndyCar debut in 2021 with Juncos Hollinger Racing for the season’s final three races. After his performances, Ilott signed a full-time contract with the team for 2022.

The 25-year-old achieved his career-best finish in the series of fifth place at both the 2023 NTT IndyCar season opener and finale. Following a tumultuous year, Juncos Hollinger Racing and Callum Ilott parted ways after 36 race starts together.

An opportunity arose with Arrow McLaren this season when David Malukas was unable to drive the No. 6 car because of an injured wrist. Ilott replaced the injured Malukas at St. Petersburg and in the 108th Running of the Indianapolis 500.

A New Chapter for PREMA

PREMA Racing has found success across multiple European series, but the transition to IndyCar and US racing will be difficult. By signing IndyCar veteran Callum Ilott, the team will have both European and US racing experience on their side.

Team Owner Rene Rosin and CEO Piers Phillips have both acknowledged this, Phillips stating:

“We are really looking forward to welcoming Callum to our INDYCAR team. His previous experiences in the series, combined with those with PREMA, will make him a key asset as we try to merge the team’s European heritage with what it will be able to learn in the US.”

The team has until March 2nd to prepare for the first race of the 2025 NTT IndyCar season in St. Petersburg. Both Ilott and PREMA have acknowledged how competitive IndyCar is. With ovals, bumpy tracks, a new car, and more, the team will face many challenges in their debut season in the series.

Callum Ilott will be piloting PREMA’s Chevrolet-powered Dallara in 2025. While the team has confirmed they will run two cars, Ilott’s teammate has yet to be announced.
