Just two weeks after the dramatic Formula 3 decider in Monza, the Alpine Academy driver of Gabriele Minì will make his Formula 2 debut. Replacing F1-bound Ollie Bearman at PREMA Racing. This call-up came as Kevin Magnussen received a race ban for exceeding the number of penalty points a driver could receive.

The Formula 2 step-up is an exciting opportunity for the Italian who came painfully close to winning the Formula 3 title.

Minì’s championship hopes came crashing down during the final race in Monza, which saw Leonardo Fornaroli pass Christian Mansell into the final turn. Thus sealing a back-to-back drivers championship for Trident. The PREMA driver was later disqualified due to a low tyre pressure on his car. This dramatic end to the season will leave the 19-year-old eager to get into Formula 2 machinery.

Formula 2 future

With the PREMA duo of Kimi Antonelli and Ollie Bearman graduating to F1, it is widely believed Minì would be the team’s top choice for 2025. This weekend would therefore allow Minì some much-appreciated experience in the series.

Gabriele Minì has been a part of PREMA in 2020 and the past two seasons. This will help him to have some familiarity with a new, competitive championship. With PREMA hoping to replicate the history-making weekend they had last time out at Baku.

Whilst this is an exciting opportunity for the Italian driver. Ollie Bearman will likely retain his Formula 2 seat following the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. With only 2 race weekends left for the series, the Brit will be looking to make up places in the standings.
