After ten race weekends, only a third of the 2024 Formula 2 season is left. It’s been a surprising year so far, and F2’s standout drivers have been unexpected.

With the rapid changes in form from race to race, it’s been hard for the drivers to make an impression. However, a few of have managed to set themselves apart from the rest.

Paul Aron (Hitech Pulse-Eight)
Estonian driver Paul Aron is in his rookie season of Formula 2, yet he’s been the most consistent driver on the grid. While Aron is currently third in the F2 Driver Standings, he led the championship for months.
He achieved seven podiums in the first seven race weekends. There have only been four races where Aron has failed to score points.
Aron has yet to earn his maiden F2 win, but it’s only a matter of time. His ability to stay calm and focused throughout the highs and lows of his unanticipated title fight has been impressive.
The former Mercedes Junior Driver has been an unexpected championship contender. Consistency has been the key to his success as one of F2’s standout drivers in 2024.
Isack Hadjar (Campos Racing)
The current championship leader has announced himself as the driver to beat. With four feature wins to his name this season, Isack Hadjar is one of the few repeat winners in 2024.

After taking the Feature Race win and the Championship lead in Silverstone, Hadjar has continued to extend his points lead. He went into the summer break with a 36-point lead over second-place driver Gabriel Bortoleto.
Hadjar is in his second season of F2, but this is the first year he’s stood out among the other drivers on the grid. He’s perfectly poised to win his first ever single-seater championship.
Gabriel Bortoleto (Invicta Racing)
The reigning Formula 3 Champion Gabriel Bortoleto has continued to prove himself in Formula 2. He started his rookie season with a pole position. Even though he didn’t take the win, it was clear he was a front-running driver.
Bortoleto later took that maiden win in Austria. After taking two more podiums in the proceeding race weekends, he eventually took second place in the Driver Standings from Paul Aron. He’s on a clear upward trajectory.
If his good form continues, the McLaren Junior Driver could follow in the footsteps of Oscar Piastri and win back-to-back F3 and F2 titles.
Andrea Kimi Antonelli (PREMA Racing)
Even though Kimi Antonelli had a slower start to the season than expected, his great performances at select races have proven that he’s one of F2’s standout drivers this year.
Because Antonelli made the jump from Formula Regional to Formula 2, it’s understandable that he had a fairly anonymous start to the season. However, he improved as he gained experience.
Antonelli secured his first F2 win during a rainy Silverstone Sprint Race. Despite multiple Safety Car restarts and a torrential downpour, he was untouchable at the front of the field. Second place finisher Zane Maloney was almost nine seconds behind Antonelli when he took the checkered flag.
At the next race weekend in Hungary, Antonelli continued his momentum by taking his first Feature Race win in an impressive fashion. He’s currently seventh in the F2 Driver Standings, eight positions ahead of his teammate and future Haas F1 driver Oliver Bearman.
