Ten drivers – a third of the F3 grid – have been handed post-race penalties after the Sprint at the 2024 Belgian GP. All of whom have been dealt time-penalties for various track limits violations. In fact, the Stewards reviewed a total of 101 violations by 28 out of 30 drivers, who were struggling to stay on track in the wet.
While some driver investigations had had no further action, a third of the grid have received a time penalty added onto their initial classification times.
Five-Second Penalties
Trident had all three drivers penalised; Leonardo Fornaroli, Sami Meguetounif and Santiago Ramos all were found to have exceeded track limits and were handed a five-second penalty. They join Hitech Pulse-Eight’s Martinius Stenshorne and Jenzer Motorsport’s Charlie Wurz, who were in the same boat with a five-second penalty. Fornaroli drops from P8 to P9, while Ramos will plummet from fifth to eighth. Stenshorne goes from P15 to P18 and Wurz stays in P26. Meguetounif will sit in P27, with the penalty adding onto the thirty-second penalty he received during the race for five more track violations.
Ten-Second Penalties
MP Motorsport’s Alexander Dunne, Hitech’s Luke Browning, Van Amersfoort Racing’s Tommy Smith and AIX Racing’s Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak have also been dealt two separate time penalties each. The four were found to have exceeded track limits five times and been landed with two five-second time penalties. Consequentially, Dunne drops to P23 from P14, while Browning goes from sixth to P12. Smith is demoted to P25 from P18.
The ten-second time penalty for Inthraphuvasak’s is added to the ten-seconds he was already given during the race. However, he stays in P29.
Mari Boya, the final driver to be hit with a penalty from the F3 Sprint at the 2024 Belgian GP, has had 25 seconds added on to his time. The Spaniard was flagged for track limits violations on eight separate occasions. He therefore drops from P21 to P28.
