It’s been announced that Bruno Famin is set to leave BWT Alpine F1 Team by the end of August. The announcement comes after a disaster of a season so far for the French outfit, who have failed to improve even with a slew of management changes.
Even in FP1, Esteban Ocon was forced to miss the majority of the session after a water leak in the car. On a weekend where all eyes are on the Alpine team – whose car is decked out in a promotional livery dedicated to stakeholder Ryan Reynolds’ new film ‘Deadpool Vs Wolverine’ – there couldn’t have been a worse start.
Famin was confirmed as Team Principal just before the beginning of the current F1 season after an interim period in charge. He stepped in after the sacking of Otmar Szafnauer at last year’s Belgian Grand Prix. Now, a year on, it’s Famin on the chopping block after failing to sort out the ailing Enstone-based team.
Famin’s replacement at Alpine is yet to be announced, with speculation already circulating about who could become the new Team Principal. According to Alpine, while Bruno Famin will no longer be at the helm of the F1 team, he will still be in charge of the other motorsport activities at the Renault Group.
