As FP2 gets underway, Redbull’s Sergio Perez set the early pace with a 1:18.568. Behind the Mexican the two Mercedes drivers were second and third.

The first part of the session saw the majority of the field ran with the yellow walled medium tyres, the only exception was Piastri and Max Verstappen, who were both running the hard tyre, however both drivers had moved onto the medium tyre within 15 minutes.

Redbull would be shouting stop the count as Perez and Verstappen were 1st and 2nd respectively, an image that we have not witnessed much this season.

Red Flag

With 43 minutes of the session to go the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc lost the rear of the Ferrari coming through turn 4, the Ferrari driver took just a bit too much kerb, which sent the car spinning back across the track and into the barrier.

The red-flag was deployed quickly to allow the marshals and medical cars to attend the scene and get both the driver and car off the track. The Ferrari car sustained significant damage to the front and rear wings, floor and possibly the rear left suspension.

A quick session for Charles Leclerc, unfortunately for the rest of the pitlane, the crash caused significant damage to the armco barrier, which took a while to replace and allow the session to re-start.

Re-Start

FP2 re-started with less than 30 minutes remaining, majority of the grid queued up to get back out for the last 28 minutes of the session. The Mercedes pair the medium Pirelli tyres for the softer red walled tyres, pushing the up to 2nd (Russell) and 3rd (Hamilton).

Zhou Guanyou in the Sauber had a spin almost at the same part of the track, fortunately for the Chinese driver he didn’t make contact with the barrier and was able to take the car back to the pits.

Last 15 minutes

As the session headed to the chequered flag, Lando Norris put in a respectable 1:17.78, 0.243 ahead of Max Verstappen in 2nd. Carlos Sainz in the remaining Ferrari was third.

This was the final order for the top three with Perez, Russell and Magnussen rounding out the top 6.

The RB’s of Ricciardo had a solid session finishing in a respectable eighth place, with Yuki Tsunoda down in ninetieth, the Alpine’s of Ocon and Gasly seemed to be struggling with a finish of fourteenth and sixteenth respectively.
