The Hungarian Grand Prix is a narrow and winding track, which makes overtaking difficult. The high track temperatures also make tyre degradation a key factor of this Grand Prix weekend.

Isack Hadjar leads the championship with 133 points. Paul Aron behind has 117 points and with the sun out, the drivers wasted no time heading out on the track.

Jak Crawford in the DAMS did the first fast lap of the session with a 1:36.036. However, it was a short-lived fastest as Hauger crossed the line with a 135.383.

Given the high track temperature at the Hungaroring, proper tyre preparation is crucial for both the drivers and the track evolution.

Zane Maloney in the Rodin Carlin broke the 1:34’s to put in 1:33.566 going fastest, behind him was the MP Motorsport of Dennis Hauger with a 1:33.872 and Richard Verschoor with a 1:33.956.]

Maloney, Villagomez and Cordeel all had lockups in the first corners. Turn 1 was a common area of struggle for the drivers.

Kimi Antonelli, in his PREMA, went second fastest, 1:33.765.

Yellow Flag

Pepe Martì had a large spin into turn 11, the red bull junior damaged his front wing and a yellow flag was called while they moved his car behind the barrier.

As the green flags were waved again, Paul Aron wasted no time getting back on track. Aron was testing out what the degradation was like on the hard compound tyre. His lap time being almost two seconds off the fastest times.

Franco Colapinto had a similar incident to Pepe Martì. Losing the car on turn 11, however, he managed to save the car, avoiding the wall and getting back on track.

20 Minutes left

With 18 minutes to go, Victor Martins went fastest with a 1:33.245, just 0.002 behind Martins was Maloney. Hauger went 0.145 seconds fastest than the grid to take the fastest time.

The fastest time in the F3 practice was a 1:34 and the F2 cars are only just in the 1:33’s. It shows the difference in track conditions as well as drivers doing a ‘race focused’ practice session.

With just ten minutes left, Hauger led with a 1:33.100. Behind was Bortoleto with a 1:33.221 and Victor Martins with a 1:33.245. Drivers went into the pits where many had adjustments to ride heights before their final laps.

In the final five minutes, Paul Aron in his Hitech Pulse-Eight broke the 1:33’s with a 1:32.984, but Maloney in the Rodin Carlin went faster with a 1:32.668.

Dennis Hauger had a big snap of oversteer that he luckily managed to save.

The chequered flag was waved and Maloney in his Rodin Carlin led the F2 Practice for the 2024 Hungarian GP with a 1:32.668 followed by Jak Crawford in the DAMS with a 1:32.801 and Enzo Fittipaldi 1:32.928.
