The only Formula 3 Practice session of the 2024 British GP weekend has began what is always a celebrated event at Silverstone. This is Round 7 of the Formula 3 Championship and following the Austrian GP weekend, the championship is heating up.
Green Light
While it was a wet start to the weekend, cars appeared on track with full wets. Max Esterson topped the timesheet with a 2:02.391 for Jenzer Motorsport as the drivers got to grips with the conditions.

It wouldn't be Britain without a wet track now, would it? ☔️#F3 #BritishGP pic.twitter.com/EgbMIbjcsM
Arvid Lindblad soon replaced Esterson in P1 with a 2:02.079. However, it soon became clear that the drivers were beginning to maxmise the conditions as Campos Racing’s Mari Boya leapt to the top on a 2:00.873. He put seven tenths of a second between himself and Sami Meguetounif in P2.
With 30 minutes left to go in a thus far uneventful practice session, Nikola Tsolov was the next driver to sit in P1. He set a lap time of 2:00.550.
Twenty Minutes to Go
Track conditions were improving as Hitech Pulse-Eight’s Cian Shields was on the cusp of the one-minute range with a 2:00.267. This was the time to beat, which Esterson took as a challenge.
He soon arrived back at the top of the grid with a 2:00.153. Other drivers began to head back out on track with Sophia Floersch one of them. She was on Hard tyres, which prompted the title contender Leonardo Fornaroli and other drivers to take the risk also.

After some early running in the wet, we've got our first few cars experimenting on dry-weather tyres 📈

However, it appeared to be too soon for both as they ventured back into the pits. The track conditions were too wet for the dry tyres to have any impact on lap time therefore it was back to the wets.
Rain soon began to fall with just under 12 minutes to go in the only Formula 3 Practice of the 2024 British GP weekend.
This was an important time for the field to gain some wet weather knowledge to continue on into Qualifying this afternoon where there is a good chance of rainfall. The majority of the grid were on track and there were a few improvements in times as the rain got heavier. This likely bodes well for Qualifying.
Your top three in the final five minutes were Esterson, Shields, and Tsolov. Thus far, no driver had made it into the one-minute range.
Chequered Flag
There were no surprise changes to the top three in the final five minutes. Esterson sat in P1 with a 2:00.153 followed by Shields in P2 with 2:00.267 and Tsolov in P3 with a 2:00.550. Shields’ Hitetch teammate James Wharton finished P4 with a 2:00.657 while Mari Boya rounds out the top five with 2:00.873.
