Technical Issues and Penalties Mar Performance Despite Efforts to Improve. In a candid post-race interview, Tsunoda reflected on the challenges and complications faced during Sunday’s Spanish GP.
Early in the race, the VISA Cash App driver encountered a significant problem.
“There was an issue in the beginning, a clear issue, and for sure that was compromised a little bit,”
Tsunoda explained.
Although the team managed to mitigate this problem to some extent, it wasn’t entirely resolved.
“and able to solve it in the run, at least in steering, but I’m not sure it’s fixed completely because I was feeling so weird inside the car.”
When asked about a peculiar comment he made over the radio, the driver admitted,
“Yeah, I’m not sure how it happens, but one thing like I said, there was a thing that I felt completely wrong,”
The team responded with some adjustments, but their efforts fell short.
“and well at least I had a bit of feedback from them and I think we fixed that in the steering, switches, whatever. But I don’t think we fixed it completely, it was very strange.”
The day worsened with a pit lane speeding penalty. “I think you got a pit speeding penalty as well just to make the day worse,” the interviewer noted. Tsunoda acknowledged this with a heavy heart.
Despite these setbacks, when asked if he had noticed any improvements from the car’s upgrades under race conditions. Yuki’s response was cautious.
“I mean, I don’t know, for me it’s like there was something going on there, so I can’t judge completely to be honest with this run, because I think for sure something went wrong there.”
Reflecting on the previous day’s performance, he remarked,
“But for yesterday, qualifying and balance is okay, but just too much sliding, just didn’t feel much afterwards.”
However, the persistent issues left him struggling.
Overall, Tsunoda’s insights painted a picture of a difficult race compounded by technical issues and penalties, yet he remained focused on identifying and addressing the underlying problems.
