Alex Albon qualified P19 for the Barcelona GP, with his teammate alongside him in P20.

The Williams has been struggling in 2024, with a vital issue of being overweight. The extra weight the car is running has led to them gaining 4-5 tenths per lap.

With qualifying and the grid getting closer, this 4-5 tenths is the difference between making or missing out on Q2. Something that has plagued the Williams consistently this season.

Due to the poor qualifying result for Barcelona, Albon starts P19. So the team decided to change Alex Albon’s power unit. This marks his third set of energy stores and control electronics. The allocation allows 2.

On top of Albon starting from the Pit Lane, teammate Logan Sargaent received a 3 place grid penalty, staying in P20.

Sargaent received the penalty for blocking the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll in qualifying in Turn 10.

Despite the difficult qualifying for the Grove team, the Anglo-Thai driver admits the Williams has been feeling better as of late.

Expressing, “When I look at last year to this year, we’ve made a huge step. It really does feel a lot better to drive, but we’re obviously still carrying some weight.”

Albon admitted getting into the final stages of qualifying is harder than last season. He attributes this to the improvement of the midfield. Explaining, “It highlights how strong the midfield is now; my car felt good, my balance felt good.”

It will be a long race for the Williams as they recover from the P20 and Pit Lane starts.
