Andretti’s F1 bid was approved by the FIA last year but was turned down by the FOM, with multiple reasons outlined – including concerns over whether the team would be competitive and that they wouldn’t bring any value to the championship.

Andretti recently escalated the situation after their rejection by going to the US congress – with their cause being taken up by six US Senators who have asked the Department of justice to investigate whether F1 have violated antitrust laws.

F1 have not changed their position on the matter.

Despite previously being welcome to an 11th entry onto the grid, Mohammed Ben Sulayem has said that Andretti should look to buy another team rather than continue to push for a new entry.

He told Reuters: “I would advise them to go and buy and buy another team, not to come as the 11th team.

I feel that some teams need to be refreshed. What is better? To have 11 teams as a number or 10 and they are strong? I still believe we should have more teams but not any teams, the right teams.”

Whether buying a team is a viable option for Andretti is not known but given Alpines recent struggles there are rumours that the Renault could sell in the future.
