Smooth Start and Early Drama
In the F3 Sprint Monaco 2024, Alpine junior Nikola Tsolov controlled the race from start to finish. Tsolov, driving for ART, maintained his lead through two restarts and survived an investigation for illegal weaving.
Tsolov’s victory marked the seventh different winner in F3 this season, showcasing the unpredictable nature of the championship.

Tsolov’s teammate, Laurens van Hoepen, started strong but dropped to third behind Tim Tramnitz (MP Motorsport). Despite Tramnitz’s slower pace, van Hoepen couldn’t reclaim second place.
Early Chaos at Casino Square
The race had a chaotic start, with seven drivers – Sophia Floersch, Tommy Smith, Kacper Sztuka, Charlie Wurz, Martinius Stenshoorne, Cian Shields, and Piotr Wisnicki – facing penalties for track limits violations at Sainte Devote. The real action, however, began at Casino Square.
Christian Mansell and Arvid Lindblad collided, causing Lindblad to spin. Joshua Dufek, Alex Dunne, and Shields got caught up in the incident, resulting in all five drivers retiring immediately. The initial contact between Mansell and Lindblad was put under post-race investigation.
Safety Car and Red Flag
In the scramble, Sami Meguetounif narrowly avoided a crash after a slight collision with Wisnicki put him on two wheels. The race saw a safety car initially, but red flags were quickly shown as several cars were stuck together. The scene was so tangled that Dunne and Mansell’s cars had to be pushed away while still connected.
The race then settled into a typical Monaco procession. On Lap 13, another incident occurred when Floersch, carrying a 10-second penalty, collided with Sztuka. This caused race-ending damage for both and brought out another safety car.
Restart and Race Settling
After a half-hour delay, the race resumed with a rolling restart. Tsolov quickly gained an advantage over Tramnitz, who was slow off the mark.
Luke Browning had a stellar start, making bold moves around Lindblad at Sainte Devote and championship leader Leonardo Fornaroli at Massenet. His efforts largely went unnoticed amid the chaos.
Weaving Investigation Cleared
Tsolov faced a tense moment when he was investigated for weaving during the restart. The penalty could have been five seconds, but he was instructed to build a gap over Tramnitz. Fortunately, the stewards cleared him, allowing him to ease off in the final laps.
Championship Standings Update after F3 Sprint Monaco 2024
At the top of the standings, Fornaroli retained his lead, but it was reduced to just two points over Browning, who finished one spot ahead in eighth.
Tsolov’s commanding performance in the F3 Sprint Monaco 2024 showcased his skill and composure, making him a standout in this season’s unpredictable championship.
Speaking after the race, Tsolov says he’s happy with his recovery after a subpar start to the race;
“Yeah well obviously the race was quite dynamic the whole time, there was a red flag, I don’t think our start was great. I think we went too aggressive, but still managed to keep the lead so that’s important.
“And then you know safety cars, there was a bit of confusion there as they told me I might get a five second penalty, so I had to push quite a lot towards the end of the race to build a gap. Then with three laps to go they told me I’m no longer under investigation so I could chill out and just finish the race.”
