Following a shaky run at the Miami Autodrome, Sergio Perez is having a worse performance in the 2024 Emilia Romagna GP. This is crystal clear in his pre-race runs on Friday and yesterday’s qualification at Imola.

However, ‘Checo’ is still positive about a comeback in today’s race at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari.
Sergio Perez hopes for a comeback with a ‘good, solid race’ at 2024 Imola GP
As the red lights blacked out at Imola yesterday, Sergio Perez saw himself earn a P11 spot in Q1 (1:16.404). There was a surprising run from him in Q2, as he failed to improve on his final lap. This meant he would sit out Q3 with a P11 grid start in today’s race.
In a post-quali interview, he admitted on not being “able to maximize in qualifying”. Explaining his poor run, he quoted, by saying…
“In Q1 my lap wasn’t good enough and we went out on a new set. It means we started Q2 on a scrubbed set.”
“On my final lap in Q2 I lacked rear grip in Turn 7 and locked up, which cost me two and half tenths which would have easily put me into Q3. So, I think we had the pace to be a lot higher up”
Sergio Perez
The qualification round saw Max Verstappen become the ‘pole-sitter’ with a 1:!4.746 lap time, while ‘Checo’ finished in the last-half (P11). Talking on this, he said…
“We’ve made some good progress with the car as Max showed. But, unfortunately from my side I didn’t get the chance to show that in Q3.”
“We will see what we will be able to do come race day as Imola is one of the hardest tracks to overtake on”, he continued.
However, in the interview he shared his optimism for a comeback at the race.
“I hope that we can be strong tomorrow. The main target will be to minimize the issues we had today and to have a good, solid race,”
Perez Concluded
Whether Perez can deliver on his words can only be seen at today’s Emilia Romagna GP. The race will officially kick off in an hour at 15:00 CEST time.
