Goethe Reinstated As Winner And León Demoted After 2024 Imola F3 Sprint

Campos Racing’s Oliver Goethe has been reinstated as the winner of the 2024 Imola F3 Sprint Race. The five-second penalty he was given for failing to stay above the minimum time during a Safety Car was removed.

According to Formula 3, “The Stewards examined available timing data evidence following the Sprint Race along with the race control messaging system.

“After taking into account all of the information, the Stewards ruled that the penalty assigned to Goethe in-race was invalid due to the timing matrix not reflecting changes made to Article 40.7 of the 2024 Sporting Regulations at the start of the season. Because of this, the penalty applied to Goethe in the race was incorrect, and as a result of its removal, moves him back to P1.”

Even more changes have been made to the classification post-race. Van Amersfoort Racing’s Noel León, the initial winner of the 2024 Imola F3 Sprint, has been given a post-race time penalty for weaving between turns 17 and 18 under a Safety Car. A statement by Formula 3 states that “After hearing from both the driver and team representative as well as examining video evidence, the Stewards ruled that León was weaving after Turn 17, gaining a sporting advantage in the process by virtue of warming his tyres.”

MP Motorsport’s Tim Tramnitz has had his time penalty overturned. He had initially been given a five-second penalty for a Safety Car infringement, but Formula 3 say that the Stewards determined that the penalty was given wrongly;

“After examining available timing data evidence along with the race control messaging system, the Stewards determined that the application of the time penalty was incorrect due to the timing matrix not reflecting changes made to the Regulations at the start of the 2024 season.”

The addition of León’s time penalty and the removal of Tramnitz’s sees Tramnitz move up to P2, while León is demoted to P3.
