Mercedes is set to lose another senior member of staff as chief aerodynamicist Gioacchino Vino has announced his departure from the Formula One team.
This follows a number of departures of late, following Lewis Hamilton‘s move to Ferrari. Vino joins the growing list of staff exiting the team.
This week, Ferrari announced that Mercedes’ driver development director Jérôme d’Ambrosio and performance director Loic Serra were both moving to Maranello from Brackley. Vino’s departure is another loss for Toto Wolff to contend with.
Vino joined Mercedes in February 2018 as principal aerodynamicist before receiving a promotion to chief in October 2022. During his tenure, he contributed towards championship-winning cars such as the W9, W10, W11, and W12. However, he also had a role in the disappointing W13 and W14.
Earlier this month, CEO and Team Principal Wolff expressed his hopes to attract “competent people” to the team while retaining the talent they currently have.
He emphasised the importance of focusing on the team, developing strong personnel, and recruiting competent individuals from other teams to aid Mercedes’s journey to recovery.
In what looks to be a season of change for Mercedes, will this be the last team member they lose? Or is this a continuation of the departures we’ve seen so far?
