Marta García said she had a ‘positive morning’ driving a Formula E car for the first time today. Happy with her first outing in Formula E as part of the Berlin Rookie Test today, she looks to improve in future and adapt to the new car.
The ex – W Series and F1 Academy driver, who won the inaugural season of the F1 Academy Championship, took to the track in Berlin for her first run in a Formula E car. She currently competes in Formula Regional for the Iron Dames alongside current F1 Academy racer Doriane Pin.
García is happy with her first run in a Formula E car, but is looking to improve;
“It was the first time so it’s always a bit tricky, I was racing in Formula Regional so it’s a bit of transition from that car to this car, but yeah, I think it was a positive morning… obviously there’s room to improve a lot which I’m happy with. I’m happy with it, just try to improve from where we are.
“I think at the end of the day it’s adaptation. You’re used to driving then you go to another car. It’s just different in general, like this car when you go to the power it just feels like a boost, you know. You have to control the throttle and it’s completely different. Still need to improve, still need to learn from it and still need to understand it, but adaptation I think is key.”
Alongside García at the Berlin Rookie Test was another ex-W Series racer, Alice Powell, who was testing for Envision Virgin Racing. The Brit, was recently announced as the team’s official simulator and development driver, said it was strange being back in a race car after some time off;
“It’s great to be back out in a racecar. It’s been about two years since I stepped foot in a car so yeah, pretty much needed to remember which pedal is which this morning, but I went around working a lot of test items for the team which is my main priority here today.
“It’s been a joy to finally step back out out helmet back on, I had a big smile on my face when I was driving down the pitlane this morning so a huge thanks to Envision”.
