Lucas Di Grassi has called for ‘better driving standards’ in Formula E following his crash with Dan Ticktum on Saturday.
ABT Cupra driver, Lucas Di Grassi, has called for more consistency in Formula E’s rules after no penalties were handed out following his crash with Dan Ticktum on Saturday’s race.
The Brazilian claimed the ERT driver ‘t-boned’ him and caused a large amount of damage and seemed shocked no penalty was given.
He said: “I started seventh and I was running there on the top. It was where I wanted to be with the right energy and right strategy.
“The in corner of the corners, Ticktum tried to make a move on the inside and there was no space because Gunther was on the outside.
“He basically crashed into the side on my car, damaged my monocoque and broke my wheel.”
Although complaints from drivers following the race that FE is not fun to drive in it’s current form, Di Grassi was keen to state fans should be prioritised over driver needs.
One of the most experienced FE drivers on the grid, he added that if drivers ‘don’t like it, they can do another championship.
He said: “I think its fun and I think what we need to do is to have better driving standards.
“You can’t force a crash with someone else but it’s a different type of racing and I think it’s entertaining for the public.
“You might not like it or not but it’s the way FE is shaped at the moment. The client is the audience, not us so you have to prioritise you client always.”
In contrary to this, Di Grassi stated that part of prioritising the client is making sure there is consistency in the rules.
A voice in the sport since before its genesis, Di Grassi stated he won’t give up in his fight to make sure FE is fair.
“I’ve been pushing a lot to have more consistency because I’ve been penalised many times for situations that I see repeating and people not getting penalised” he continued.
“It’s a bit frustrating when the penalties are not consistent and unfortunately it’s happening at the moment.”
Looking to Sunday’s race, Di Grassi said that Saturday had made clear ‘qualifying does not matter a lot’ and hopes the team ‘can survive the race’ after labelling the racing as ‘chaos’.
