F2 star Paul Aron ‘very excited’ ahead of Berlin E-Prix debut

Formula 2 star Paul Aron has said he is ‘very excited’ for his debut this weekend.

The Estonian driver will drive for Envision Racing in Formula E’s double-header Berlin E-Prix.

The 20 year-old is currently second in the F2 standings with 47 points after three rounds.

Meanwhile, Envisions drivers, Sebastien Buemi and Robin Frijns, will be competing in the World Endurance Championship this weekend.

While they will be available for Sunday’s race, FIA regulations will not allow them to do so.

“It’s a great opportunity. Formula E is a very, very high level championship.” said Aron on Friday.

“The drivers are amazing here. The talent across the grid is very high,”

“Outside of Formula One, it’s the only other world championship single seated series you have.”

Aron refused to be drawn into the ongoing controversy surrounding Andretti’s request to enter Formula One.

Andretti were refused entry into F1 which led to Congress demanding information from the sports bosses into the decision.

“I’m not a politician in motorsports. It’s hard for me to comment and all I can do is focus on my job, which is driving, and so far I’ve done a good job in the beginning of Formula Two.” he said.

“So I don’t see any point to put effort or energy into that, and I would rather spend all my energy preparing as best as possible and focusing on this weekend here.”

Can FE be a route to F1?

With Andretti’s application rejected in 2025 and 2026 it will be even harder for the next crop of talented drives to get into F1.

Drivers could turn to Formula E as a solution to this, and a way to get more exposure at the top-level.

Several former F1 drivers are now in the sport. Sebastien Buemi, Jean Eric Vergne and Pascal Wehrlein have all had success.

With drivers like Aron now getting it chance, some may see FE as a a more attractive proposition.

Especially with drivers increasingly sticking around into their late 30s.

36-year-old Nico Hülkenberg signed a contract with Kick Sauber in April.

The move will mean the German will be in the sport for another season yet.

Some feel the drive could have gone to a younger driver who is at the start of their career.
