Miami GP | Sprint | Max Verstappen holds off Leclerc for the win

The Miami sprint saw Max Verstappen convert yet another sprint pole into a win at the Miami circuit.

Charles Leclerc in P2 had a good start off the line. However, not wanting to risk damage diving the inside in turn 1, he held back and Max maintained the lead by three seconds at the chequered flag.

Lando Norris spun out in lap one after making contact with Lance stroll. The incident was caused by Lewis Hamilton coming up the inside of Fernando Alonso, who then hit Stroll into Norris.

Both Norris and Stroll were out, with Fernando sustaining damage.

Norris was out of the race, and while they moved his car, a safety car went out. Daniel Ricciardo, who had qualified P4, was up to third place for the safety car restart.

The restart saw Verstappen manage to stay ahead of Leclerc and beginning to build a gap. It also saw Perez get ahead of Ricciardo, and Sainz closing in.

However, Ricciardo brilliantly defended against Sainz. While teammate Charles Leclerc built a gap of two seconds from him to Perez, Sainz struggled to make headway against Ricciardo.

Oscar Piastri joined the fight between the VCARB and the Ferrari, catching Carlos quickly.

However, Ricciardo kept them at bay, crossing the line in fourth place, with Tsunoda down in eighth. Both drivers picking up valuable points.

Further down the field saw Hamilton struggling to get past the two Haas’ with Magnussen holding him up to the point of getting penalties for leaving the track and gaining advantages. Hamilton ended up 16th and Magnussen ended up 18th.

Hulkenburg benefitted from his teammate’s sacrifice, holding off Hamilton allowed him to gain some more valuable points for Haas, ending in P7.

Esteban Ocon received a drive through penalty for contact with Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari in the pit lane before the race, which took him out of contention for points. He crossed the line in P15 while Pierre Gasly narrowly missed out in P9.
