Hamilton: It would be a ‘privilege’ to work with Newey

During the Miami drivers press conference, Lewis Hamilton has admitted it would be a “privilege” to work with the fabled designer, Adrian Newey, in 2025.

The British driver will join Ferrari after a hugely successful 11-year period with the Mercedes team.

Newey is also looking for a new home after an acrimonious departure from Red Bull was announced.

Although it is not yet clear where he will go.

The designer will leave the team in 2025 after allegedly falling out with team boss Christian Horner and the subsequent rising tensions in the team.

Christian Horner was accused of inappropriate behaviour towards a team member, but has since been cleared.

The female employee who accused the Red Bull team principal of inappropriate behaviour is believed to have launched an appeal against the decision made by the investigation.

Hamilton said in the Press Conference, “He’s got such a great history, track record. He’s obviously just done an amazing job throughout his career in engaging with teams and the knowledge he has.”

Adding, “I think he would be an amazing addition.”

The 7-time world champion will partner with Charles Leclerc in a mouthwatering lineup from next season onwards.

Getting a man of Newey’s stature in would only strengthen the Maranello team.

Despite making strides in performance, Ferrari has not won a championship since the 2008 Constructors Championship.

Mercedes ‘welcome’ Miami challenge

It was another challenging race weekend for the Silver Arrows at the Chinese Grand Prix two weeks ago.

Hamilton only managed 9th in Sunday’s race. With George ended in 6th.

While Hamilton was able to claim an unlikely 2nd in the sprint, the Brit slipped back in Sunday’s race. Qualifying 18th.

He’ll hope to change that this weekend which sees F1 take on a sprint doubleheader at Miami.

Mercedes have brought some upgrades to the car and the team hopes this will improve performance.

As well as fixing some of the fundamental balance issues Mercedes have faced so far.

“So excited to see developments coming through.” Said Hamilton.

“I think we’ll have a car in a bit of a better working window. So no doubt it will still be a challenge.”

“But really excited to be here in the States.”

The action gets underway today, with Practice 1 being the only window for teams to work on their cars ahead of the Sprint Shootout.

That gets underway at 21:30 this evening for U.K. viewers.
