F1 academy champion Marta García is due to make her Formula E debut at the Berlin rookie test with ERT next month. She will become the first woman in 3 years to take part in an annual session.
García is a talented driver and role model, who rose to prominence after winning the inaugural season of F1 Academy.
Following this, she received a fully funded seat in FRECA which she is doing with the Iron Dames – a female led organisation supporting women in racing. She is racing alongside F1 academy driver, Doriane Pin.
The Berlin Rookie Test is designed to give young and talented drivers the opportunity to try the latest Formula E cars. Each team enters 2 drivers with 22 drivers running in total.
Occasionally, more than 22 drivers run as teams can use different drivers in the morning or afternoon sessions.
The rookie test is purposely designed to have no overlap with junior classes. This makes it perfect for a variety of drivers from all ages and categories to get the chance to test FE machinery.
Following the announcement, Marta said:
“This test is a stepping stone in my career, and determined to make the most of it.”
Similarly, The Shanghai-Silverstone team has expressed their pride at Marta testing for them.
“Marta’s exceptional talent and achievements in F1 Academy are undeniable.” said ERT team principal, Alex Hui.
“We are confident that Marta will quickly adapt to the unique demands of electric racing and provide valuable insights for the team.”
García has ‘no big expectations’
García will attend the Monaco E-Prix this weekend. She will take part in seat fittings and get to spend time with the ERT team.
This will be García’s chance to learn from the race drivers and begin to understand the car. Both from a driver’s perspective and engineer.
However, the Spanish driver has been open with ‘The Race’ about having “No big expectations” going into Berlin.
Instead, using this opportunity to “drive the car, to understand, to see how it is.”
The test in Berlin takes place on May 13th.
In light of this, García will be dashing from FRECA in Hockenheim, which ends on May 12th to Berlin. Just in time for the test.
