Coming into the race weekend McLaren was in damage limitation mode, the thought being that the car would not be suited to the type of track in Shanghai.

Post Race Comments
During the post-race interview with Nico Rosberg, a smiling Norris stated “Just today worked out. I don’t know why. I really wasn’t expecting it to be the kind of race we had today, but got comfortable, could manage the tyres a lot.”
“And I could just push. The car felt great and felt comfortable. So good day, good points and another podium.”
The performance from Lando was even more impressive considering that the McLaren was able to outpace both the Ferrari and the second Redbull of Sergio Perez.
Lando seemed more surprised by this than his performance. In an interview with Nico Rosberg and Sky UK , he said “I mean, I was surprised by many things.”
“The lack of pace from Ferrari today, our good pace and I guess more us comparing to the Red Bull, which was so surprising. So, yeah, I mean, I just wasn’t expecting today at all.”
His performance at the Chinese GP will please McLaren fans who have seen their team get stronger and stronger after a poor start to the 2023 campaign.
The future of the team is looking bright. After enduring a poor start McLaren made some changes not only to the car concept but also to the structure of the team. This has not gone unnoticed by Lando, “it shows the team has done a good job. We’re working hard and it’s paying off.”
The next race is another sprint weekend around the streets of Miami, with McLaren bringing upgrades the future is looking good for Lando Norris and McLaren.
