After lining up for today’s race in 18th position and the struggle with soft tires in the first stint, the 7-time world champion was grateful to even get to the points.
“I didn’t honestly expect a lot more this weekend”, he said.
The second place finish in the Sprint Race definitely is a good takeaway from this weekend. Also during the Sprint Shootout session, Hamilton got really close to getting pole.
The next Gran Prix will be a Sprint weekend again, so this represents a good opportunity for Mercedes to maximise the effort, but they still need some work to do to be in better shape.

“Hopefully, we have some step forward coming in the next race”, says Hamilton. “Until then, we’ll be back in the factory and just try and position the car a bit better for Miami and hope we have a better weekend.”
Even if the results where inconsistent, Lewis Hamilton can always count on his fans to be there for him: “I’ve got huge support here and it’s great to see the whole support for the sport here, I think it’s been great. And the track is amazing, I’m glad to be back”.
