The Hungarian Grand Prix has wrapped up and had also managed to showcase an impressive feat as we witnessed the fastest pitstop of the season. McLaren’s Oscar Piastri made the first attempt at breaking the record, achieving an astonishing 2.0-second pitstop. Although it was an impressive performance, it wasn’t enough to secure a spot on the podium or outpace his teammate, Lando Norris, who ultimately finished second.
However, the excitement didn’t end there. Red Bull and Sergio Perez took the challenge further by setting a new timing record of 1.98 seconds for his pitstop, surpassing Piastri’s effort. It’s worth noting that this record is still unofficial, considering we are only midway through the season.
It’s highly likely that we’ll witness more attempts to break the record in the upcoming races, especially considering that Perez himself had previously set the record for the season at 2.07 seconds during the Spanish Grand Prix.
The fastest pitstop from last season
Last season, Daniel Ricciardo and McLaren had set the fastest pitstop during the Mexico Grand Prix, matching the current record of 1.9 seconds. After that, other pitstops in different races took longer, with times exceeding 2.04 seconds, making McLaren the only team to have changed their tires under two seconds.

Can RedBull retain their title?
Red Bull has been the winning the fastest pitstop title for the last five years. In the current season, McLaren secures the third position, with Red Bull continuing to lead the table with 274 points, closely followed by Ferrari with 212 points.
Note: the standings and points have not been updated after the Hangaroring race.

The competition remains fierce as McLaren recently implemented new upgrades, enabling Norris to secure podium finishes in the last two races. With these improvements, McLaren now has a solid opportunity to climb up and compete with Red Bull.
As we wait for the upcoming races and the determination of the driver and constructor champions is almost pretty much set, we can keep ourselves entertained, while teams compete for the fastest pitstop title, which, although possibly irrelevant compared to the other two, will be up for grabs at the final race in Abu Dhabi.
