Formula 1 has officially announced the 2024 race calendar.

The calendar, approved by the World Motor Sport Council, includes a record breaking 24 races. The season kicks off on March 2nd in Bahrain and comes to an end on December 8th in Abu Dhabi.

Key Things to Note:

The opening two races, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, will take place on a Saturday. This is a decision which has been made to accommodate Ramadan.

Sustainability Focus:

Formula 1 has announced its intentions to integrate greater calendar regionalisation into the season.

As a result this will reduce logistical burdens whilst improving sustainability.

Furthermore, certain races have been moved compared to where many are used to seeing them on the calendar. Japan has moved to April, Azerbaijan to September and Qatar is now back to back with Abu Dhabi.

Calendar Reactions:

Expressing his delight towards the 2024 Formula 1 Calendar being announced, President and CEO of Formula 1, Stefano Domenicali said:

โ€œI am delighted to announce the 2024 calendar with 24 races that will deliver an exciting season for our fans. There is huge interest and continued demand for Formula 1. I believe this calendar strikes the right balance between traditional races and new and existing venues.โ€

Stefano Domenicali also spoke on how Formula 1 hopes to make sure the season’s calendars are more sustainable in years to come:

โ€œI want to thank all of the promoters and partners for their support and effort to achieve this great schedule. Our journey to a more sustainable calendar will continue in the coming years as we further streamline operations as part of our Net Zero 2030 commitment. We have plenty of racing to look forward to in 2023, including the inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix, and our fans can look forward to more excitement next season.
