Max Verstappen takes his first ever Monaco pole from Fernando Alonso with a sensational last sector of his final lap.

Monaco GP: Qualifying 1

As is now the traditional, the Monaco GP: Qualifying is split into three sessions with the bottom five dropping out of this session.

The first surprise of the Monaco GP: Qualifying was Sergio Perez. Last years winner brought out the red flag after losing control of his Redbull turning into the first corner. Unfortunately for the Mexican, the heavy contact destroyed the rear corner and majority of the left hand side of the car.

Monaco GP: Qualifying 1 Result

Out in Q1 was: Sargent, Magnussen, Hulkenburg, Zhou and Perez. It was a close session, with Sargent near the top of the standing a few minutes before the end of the session, however track evolution put and end to the Williams drivers session as some last minute laps sent the American (and others) out of Qualifying.

Monaco GP: Qualifying 2 Results

Qualifying 2 took another victim, with Lando Norris clipping the barrier on the exit of the chicane, breaking the McLaren’s left front suspension. Lando Norris still put his car into Q3 just.

The drivers that did dropout were: Piastri, DeVries, Albon, Stroll and Bottas.

The biggest surprise will be the elimination of Lance Stroll, who us unable to put the Aston Martin into the top ten, the Canadian will not be happy with his qualifying effort.

Monaco GP: Qualifying Pole Shootout

The final part of qualifying includes 10 drivers (possibly 9 if McLaren are unable to repair Lando Norris’s car)

The final session was just as breathless as the previous two, Esteban Ocon set the pulses racing putting his Alpine on pole near of the session in what looked like a time that could have taken pole, however Formula 1 is blessed with drivers like Max Verstappen and Fernando Alonso. First up was Fernando, who stuck his Aston Martin on provisional pole, a pole that would have been the Spaniards first pole since the 2012 German Grand Prix.

As we have come to realise that we can not right off Max Verstappen even when he is two tenths away and only 1 sector left. The reigning World Champion found a massive three tenths to break Aston Martin’s hearts!!!!

Charles Leclerc qualified in third place, however the stewards are looking into an incident during the final stages of quali, when the Ferrari driver seems to have impeded Norris, this could see Charles penalised and dropped further down the grid.

Pole: Verstappen, Alonso, Leclerc, Ocon, Sainz Hamilton, Gasly, Russell, Tsunoda, Norris
