Formula 1 has become very popular, not only with fans but with promoters. People want to have a slice of the Formula 1 pie, unfortunately the pie will run out, with some people (promoters) missing out on a slice.
Formula 1 boss Stefano Domenicali has mentioned this issue, stating that long standing venues can not rely on their history and need to evolve to remain on the schedule.

Out With the Old in With the Long Term Deal
With new venues arriving, some with long term deals (Saudi Arabia, Qatar) and other wishing to return with a modernised track (Kyalami) there are fewer and fewer spaces left on the calendar, Some tracks that have been around for decades may not be part of Formula 1 future if they insist on looking at the past rather than evolve with the future.
Calendar Looking Good but Something is Missing
Domenicali stated at a recent Liberty Media investor call that the current calendar is “pretty good- i would say in terms of number, 24 [events] is the right number, and the mix of continents we have to day is looking good”

He would go on further, “it’s no secret we are still seeing if there’s a chance to go to Africa [because] its the only continent missing”
On the subject of Historic venues, he stated, ” To be arrogant and believe that you have a granted future because you had a race since 100 years, to be very honest is not enough”.
