During an interview with Andrea Schlager (who is coincidentally his very recent ex-girlfriend) for his sponsor Bang & Olufsen. She asked him how much longer he planned to race, to which he responded: “I’d like to know that too.
“When I started in F1, I wanted to be there for seven or eight years. Then I won the two championships and I thought maybe I would drive another year or two.”
“Now I’ve had the longest career in Formula One, and I’m still fresh, still motivated, still enjoying every single day. I wake up in the morning and I’m happy with what i am doing. So yeah, there are a few more years for me.”
“Of course, a third world championship title is my goal, but at the moment it is first of all about driving a good season. Aston Martin had a lot of problems in 2022, so we have to; let’s put it this way, learn to run properly again before we start racing.”

Andrea Schlager had recently been quoted as saying he will retire once his two year contract with Aston Martin runs out. (Perhaps that’s why she is now his ex-girlfriend. 😬)
When asked about his chances of winning a championship, Fernando gave a very confident response.
“Always I believe it’s possible, that’s why I keep racing. The challenge is big, you have to overcome some difficulties, and there are some top teams at the top of the sport, but I race every day and train every day thinking that it is possible.”

The Aston Martin team have started the year in confident, strong form. Alonso has been third on the podium for every race so far. Lance Stroll has been 4th and 6th with a DNF splitting his results. It was a surprise for the whole team to see how far up the order they were placed. While they have said that they’re not expecting to win the championship or fight for wins every race. They’re hoping to be consistent and build on this for future campaigns.
