Despite showing great pace in the first GP of the season, Norris had to make six pit stops with signs of a pneumatic leak before retiring. Teammate Oscar Piastri lasted just 15 laps of his debut race before entering the garage with an electrical failure. This landed the team at the bottom of the constructors’ championship.

With this in mind, Team Principal Andrea Stella has hinted at new additions coming to the papaya McLaren.

“There are little things that are coming for the next couple of races – not necessarily very noticeable but they should add some performance here and there.”

Hoping to add some points for Mclaren there will be continuous efforts across the next two races in Saudi Arabia and Australia. Informing fans that ‘Major upgrades’ to the aero programme will be coming to the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku at the end of April.

Regardless of the result in Bahrain, technical director James Key says “we are where we thought we would probably be,” adamant that the MCL60 is showing encouraging signs from the previous year.

Alongside mechanical issues, the competition for midfield has increased dramatically. With Aston Martin showing great prospects for the future, creating even more pressure for the young Mclaren drivers to pull the most out of these upgrades.

Stella suggests these new additions will provide us with some more ‘enjoyable races’ and set them back for their target for fourth place.

Do you think McLaren have a realistic chance of hitting their fourth place target?
