Tottenham Hotspur have announced a new partnership with Formula 1 to have a go-karting track built under their football stadium.
The venue will become the longest indoor track to feature in London and is set to be built under the South Stand.
The karting experience is being hailed as a long term alliance and aims to promote diversity and other opportunities to young people looking to get into the sport.
It also hopes to attract women and under represented groups to a sport that is lagging behind in equal representation.
The driver academy programme will also look to widen the talent pool and identify the next generation of f1 drivers.
Both Tottenham and F1 have pledged to deliver educational activities, engage local young people in motorsport and offer career advice for those looking to enter careers in engineering and software development.
Stefano Domenicali, Formula One CEO, said: “As we continue to grow our sport around the world, partnering with world renowned brands like Tottenham Hotspur allows us to take F1 and motorsport to new and diverse audiences.
“The karting experience will be a destination and place that families, friends and aspiring drivers from all over the world will want to visit and enjoy, engaging new audiences and offering an accessible entry point to the world of motorsport.”
The groups will also tackle their sustainability goals as both F1 and football aims to become greener.
F1 wants to become net zero carbon while Spurs aim to achieve the same goal by 2040.
Expanding into other sports
This isn’t the first time the North London club has dipped their toes into other sporting ventures.
They have spearheaded the NFL UK campaign in recent years hosting two games in the 2022 season and are set to welcome more in the new season.
Daniel Levy, Tottenham’s chairman, added: “Since building this stadium our ambition has always been to see how far we can push the boundaries in delivering world-class experiences that will attract people from around the world all year round.
We have been able to bring the biggest names in sport and entertainment to London N17. We are extremely excited about what this long-term partnership with F1 will bring for our global, national and local communities.”
