Aston Martin reserve driver Felipe Drugovich will stand in for Lance Stroll at the
Bahrain test after the Canadian suffered a cycling accident whilst training.
The reigning Formula 2 champion made his first appearance in F1 machinery at the post
season test in Abu Dhabi last season, in the AMR22.
It gives the Brazilian a chance to continue to understand the car and possibly make his
Grand Prix debut should Stroll be too unfit to compete at the first round of the season.
New signing Fernando Alonso will drive on Thursday however, the team have not
announced the schedule for the other two days.
Stroll said in a statement on social media: “I’ve had an unfortunate accident whilst training on
my bike in preparation for the season. I am determined to get back in the car and I am
excited about the season ahead with the team. I am motivated to bounce back from this
setback as quickly as possible.”
The team added: “Stroll is however expecting a quick recovery and return to driving duties.
“His fitness to return to the cockpit will be assessed daily and the team will issue an update
ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix.”
