Have you seen the Formula 1 power ranking?

Did you notice that only 5% of Formula 1’s most influential players are women?

Paddock Magazine’s 2023 Formula 1 power list was published last month.

Of the top 100 ranked, only 5 of them were women.

Sacia Woodward Hill : General Council Formula 1 (ranked 42)

Safra Catz : CEO of Oracle Corporation (ranked 46)

Renee Wilm : CEO Las Vegas GP (ranked 52)

Susie Wolff : Managing director of F1 Academy (ranked 70)

Chloe Targett-Adams : Global director of race promotion (ranked 76)

None of which made it into the top 40.

How is the list decided?

This list, whilst open to debate, is an eagerly anticipated ranking in the paddock, with influence being determined by four main areas:

Economic power

Command

Newsworthiness

Impact

These four areas are a subjective measure that captures how important each individual is in their respective position.

A team of experts researched individuals and sends an online survey to motorsport professionals to help build an overall picture and determine results.

With that in mind, are you surprised by the lack of women on this list?

Female representation has a long way to go

I’ll say it again, only 5% of Formula 1’s most influential players are women. A reminder that female representation within motorsports still has a long way to go…

It’s certainly not an overnight fix, but in 2024 it would be great to see this number double.

Yes these 5 women are incredible role models, doing amazing things within the sport.

But 5 isn’t enough.

If there is a lack of women at the top, how can we expect real change to happen?

Have the motorsport experts overlooked women in the paddock?

Or are there not enough women in the sport, particularly in positions of power?

Who do you think is missing from the list?
